POLICIES

Appointments & Cancellations

In order to provide the highest standard of care and be accessible to our clients, we limit the number of clients we work with at a time and operate through routinely scheduled appointment slots. These slot frequencies are typically scheduled weekly and, very occasionally, bi-weekly.

All clients are required to give 48 hours' notice for canceling appointments regardless of reason for needing to cancel. For late cancellations, clients are responsible for payment of session fee. Should frequency of cancellations become common, a stricter cancellation policy will be discussed.

This policy promotes effectiveness in your therapy, ensures your therapist is accessible, and is fair to those on our wait list, as we only take on a certain number of clients at a given time.

Confidentiality

All information shared with your Therapist will be kept confidential unless you authorize, in writing, our release of your information to specified parties for specified reasons. The exceptions to this, where we have duty to report as specified by Virginia law are:

  • Cases of imminent threat to self or other

  • Cases of suspected neglect and/or abuse of minor by a parent, guardian, custodian, or caretaker

  • Cases of suspected neglect and/or abuse of elder by their caretaker.

You can read our full Privacy Policy here.

SESSIONS

Our first few sessions will be spent getting to know one another, discussing what’s led you to therapy, learning what is important to you, and allowing space to ask questions.

We will also establish your designated day and time to meet, and how often. Sessions are a combination of conversation and intervention as we talk about the events in your life (both currently and in the past) to uncover patterns, false beliefs, and various other ways of being that serve you well sometimes and other times not so much. We'll talk a lot about emotions, thoughts, feelings, reactions, and the various things that may trigger you.  We'll offer you tools for you to use in your day-to-day life. The goal is always to help you remain self-supporting present.

Most of all, we will hold space for you to practice being who you already are, making it easy for your future self to emerge.

INSURANCE

We do not accept health insurance. We are not in-network with any insurance companies, and this includes Medicare and Medicaid. Payment is due the day of services rendered and will be paid electronically.

We understand that therapy is both an emotional and financial commitment. While we currently do not accept insurance, we can provide receipts, or "superbills" that can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement and are happy to assist in that process.

For organized record keeping, your payment receipts are available for you at any time within your private client account. These are great come tax time since medical costs are often tax-deductible.
